Cruises have always been a popular choice for that much needed holiday. Not only does it offer the ultimate method of relaxing, hassle-free travel; you can also experience some of the greatest cities and locations in the world. This is certainly the case when onboard a transatlantic cruise. It’s up to you which ever direction you sail, dependent on whether you want to experience European or American shores first. Here are some of the fascinating places you can visit on the way.
Copenhagen
The beautiful capital of Denmark could either be the very beginning or the very end of your cruise, depending on the route you decide to take. Copenhagen has some incredible architecture, ranging from the statue of the Little Mermaid, the famous gates of the old Tivoli Gardens to the 400 year old former royal retreat of Rosenberg Castle. It is also a city of impeccable taste, with 13 restaurants featuring Michelin stars, more than any other Scandinavian city.
Barcelona
The capital of Catalonia, Barcelona’s influence on fashion, media, entertainment and multi-cultural sports add to its customary status as one of Worlds major cities. It is home to FC Barcelona, one of Europe’s most successful football teams and considered the greatest team of the modern generation. Away from sport, the architect Antoni Gaudi is the pioneer of some of the cities incredible architecture. His legacy lives through his unfinished masterpiece, the colossal Sagrada Familia. The church, with spires a colossal 170 metres high, has been under construction since 1882, and is expected to be completed in 2026.
Ponta Delgada
Set just of reach of Portugal in the Atlantic, Ponta Delgada offers a paradise unimaginable to Europe. Set on the Island of Sao Miguel, it is apart of the 8 island groups collectively known as the Azores. Its location offers some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable, with plunging waterfalls, scorching thermal springs and thick sub-tropical forests. With it also being a goldmine for whale and dolphin watching, its range of wildlife is mind-blowing.
Miami
Set on the sun drenched sandy beaches of Florida; Miami is among the most sought after places to live in the world. The vibrant and active city offers more sports and activities than you can shake a stick at. Dive into sailing, kite surfing or maybe do some kayaking in the bay. If water isn’t really your thing, get stuck into rock climbing, a round of golf or even a game of tennis. Whatever it sport it is you like doing, be sure to find it in Miami.
These are just a selection of places you can visit on the many transatlantic cruises available. In terms of visiting a medley of different cities, experiencing different cultures and gazing at incredible sights; the cruise is unrivalled.
